A weekend getaway...

Our oldest son and daughter-in-law gave us tickets to a concert at Clemson University for Mr. Bird Nest's birthday so we decided to make it a little getaway.

We left our house early in the morning to run a few errands (parts we needed for the repair of the china cupboard) and stop at one of our favorite restaurants to have brunch.

003

Mr. Bird Nest also found a little town on the way in Easley, SC where they were having an Antique Festival in their downtown.  I left him outside taking photos while I went through some of the antique stores.

004

He was probably thinking he could take a nap on the other end of this bench.

005

They had some really great places to shop.

008

They also had outside vendors.

006

I guess this was when the boredom for him hit.

023

I started collecting cast iron dogs but now that also extends to china ones.  He was only $5.00.

025

I had to have this footed bowl and in a second you will see why.

026

This bowl on the left I have had for about 30 years.  I use it for punch, trifle, etc.  So I had to have the one on the right and it was only $12.00.

We had reservations at a great restaurant for dinner before the concert..."Pixie and Bill's" in Clemson, SC.  First, we had spinach salad with homemade bleu cheese dressing.  Mr. Bird Nest had his favorite, a hunk of rare prime rib that was about 3 inches thick and as big as his plate.  It would have fed a family of four for at least two nights.  I suffered through filet mignon, well done (I'm a farm girl and we like our meat cooked).  It also included baked potatoes, broccoli and a loaf of warm wheat bread.  I couldn't have eaten dessert if my life had depended on it.

013

Now, live from LittleJohn Coliseum...........finally after three warm up acts, JASON ALDEAN.

I've been lucky enough to see him 3 or 4 times.  Mr. Bird Nest has now seen him twice.

022

He is a country artist but I consider him more Southern Rock and he's a Georgia boy.

020

It was a really late night for us....11:45 and thanks to Mr. Bird Nest we stayed overnight in Clemson so we didn't have to make the hour drive home until the next morning.  (He was up, showered and dressed by 6:30).  UGH!   I was planning to sleep in till at least 7:00 but it was his birthday treat.

 Thanks for reading,

Gretchen

  1. I order my meat well-done. Then usually my husband takes the waiter aside and says, "Make that medium-well." And I glower. I don't want a speck of red. Could never have been a nurse. I wouldn't have made it through the first round. Anyway, I'm now jittery from steroids (a scary thought, since I'm jittery anyway), and bouncing off the walls. Driving poor Robert crazy. I'm so glad you found a match to your treasure. Now I'll go look and see what else I should clean, just in case a little of that poison ivy oil touched something I haven't thought of yet. Oh yeah, that trash bag holder outside that holds huge bags up as you fill them. I forgot to clean that, and I touched it all over while I was putting vines into it!

  4. I had fun just reading this post! Mention of bleu cheese dressing makes my mouth water! My daughter could have been transferred to SC, so now I would like to visit. We had planned a getaway to SC for our 25th wedding anniversary a couple of years ago, but our plans had to be changed. Maybe someday! BTW, excellent treasure hunting! Lots of bang for your bucks!

  6. Sounds like a great day!!! Jason Aldean was in Savannah the night before he was up at Clemson and I was SO close to buying tickets to go. I would have too, but my daughter's Fall Festival at school was that night and we had to go. I saw Jason back in May when he opened for Tim McGraw. I thought he was GREAT!

  7. What a great trip! And seems much deserved for the two of you to get away from all the projects at home. I'm looking forward to college-hunting trips with Harleigh, just to get away for a day or two, with fun things to do and no home projects or cleaning calling my name.
