These are just a few of my many cookbooks. If I had to choose just one as my favorite it would be "Joy of Cooking". It always has just what I'm looking for.
Oh and I love to make bread too but as we get old I've had to ramp down how much of that I make. It just seems to come out of the oven and applies itself to my thighs immediately.
These are some of the most fun books to cook from. I love to gather them from trips to New England, the South, just wherever we happen to be.
Here is a recipe my family can't live without, when we have ham.
OVEN HASH BROWNS
2# bag of frozen Oreida O'Brien hash browns
1 stick of margarine
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
Saute the last three ingredients together.
Mix all of the above with these ingredients.
2 c. sour cream
2 c. mild cheddar cheese (shredded)
1 c. cream of chicken soup
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Mix all together. Put into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish.
I like to put Pepperidge Farm bread crumbs over the top of this casserole but you don't have to.
Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. For holidays when my oven is full, I just cook it in a crockpot.
Thanks for reading,
