Junk shopping...

002

I had a doctor appointment near some thrift stores today, so I stopped by.  My first find was this metal tray thingy.  It was $2.50 and I'm sure I'll paint it but I don't know what color.  I thought I could put candles on it or something.

003

I found these two things at Goodwill.  The one on the left was $2.50 and the one on the right $1.00.  I have no need for either of these (I don't even know what the thing on the right is) but the price made me sure I could paint them and use them somewhere.  They also discounted them 50 cents since I'm 60 years old.  It pays to be a "Cougar".

004

005

I found this little chair for Chloe and Lauren's dolls.  I might paint it but I'm sure they won't care.  $2.95.

006

I was looking for 2 of these and each one was $2.00.

007

These I found at Garden Ridge for $2.00 each.

008

I also found this book at Garden Ridge for $6.99.

All in all not an expensive day but a lot of goodies for the money.

Yesterday, I sold some furniture I recently took to a consignment shop.  Yeah, that money is burning a hole in my pocket and I haven't gotten it yet.

Tomorrow, I may go out looking for a china cabinet to put my grandmother's china in.  I bid on a cabinet last weekend at an online auction in Greenville but Mr. Bird Nest made me quit bidding at $385.00.  It was actually bigger than I wanted but it wouldn't have needed to be refinished and that was a plus.  I think the guy bidding against me would have probably gone to $700 so it was good to have someone rein me in.  Mr. Bird Nest loves to think he's in charge so sometimes I humor him and let him think he is.

Knitting an afghan...

I would like to knit an afghan this winter.  My knitting skills are about average but I can't find a pattern for anything I like.  Would anyone out there in blogland have a simple pattern that I might knit, that wouldn't take the next three years to create?

Thank you to my favorite girls...

001

I am lucky enough to have a cleaning service that comes to my house every other Friday.  Until after I have my knee replacement surgery in the Spring and with my Rheumatoid Arthritis, there is just a lot I can't do.  If I were to get down on my knees to clean something, I would have to wait until Mr. Bird Nest got home from work to help me up.

Anyhoo, I am so happy to have these two girls in my life and especially my home, that I made some small Halloween treat bags for them.

You two are the best!

My first banner and my new phone...

003

I don't have a lot of fancy scrap booking items but I decided to try to make a little banner for Halloween.  Obviously, I need a little help on alignment and how to make a banner.  One good idea I thought of afterward is that it should have said "Autumn".  That would have been much easier and shorter.

004

I just stamped the letters and they look okay if you get up really close to them.  I'll provide reading glasses for those who can't see them.

001

Yesterday my new cell phone arrived.  It will probably take my entire two-year commitment to learn how to use it.  The one thing I really liked about it was that I can read the numbers without putting on my glasses.  I'm not a big cell phone talker.  Mr. Bird Nest didn't think I needed one that was so fancy but when you open it up.....

002

it has a keyboard and I can text message.  Since our oldest son Rick might be in Atlanta one day, SC the next and NC the following day, it will always allow me to be in touch with him.  Both boys (yeah, they're still my boys) might be in Tennessee or NC on a Saturday or Sunday fishing too.

Would you like to read and laugh...

003

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read.  Besides you get three books for one price.

001

These are the other three books she has written.  If you don't want to buy them, check them out at the library.

New curtains in the kitchen...

009

I spent the afternoon making new curtains for the kitchen window.  I think they are going to brighten things up a little too.

008

I now need to make six chair pads for the chairs but I'm taking a short break before I get those started.

Mr. Bird Nest has the day off tomorrow so maybe I'll work in the yard a little since he'll be home.

Antiques...

004

In my continual quest to clean out my pantry I decided to hang these dishes in the guest bath.  The pattern is Tea Leaf Ironstone China.  The plate on top was one of my mother's collection.  I bought the platter in the middle at an antique shop in PA.  The little saucer without a cup, I found at an antique shop on Tybee Island in Georgia.

007

This little apron was made for me by my Gammy (Edna Mohney Klepfer, my maternal grandmother).  I remember wearing it when she and I would bake and cook together.  Today I finally found a shadow box to put it in.

Do you like the new globes I put on the chandelier?  Should the black part be painted a different color?  What do you think?
