Before - The Remodel Of Our Two Bathrooms...

We remodeled our two bathrooms in the fall of 2008.  When I say we, I actually mean Mr. Bird Nest remodeled them.  And when I say he remodeled them, I mean all of it:  plumbing, wiring, carpentry, drywall, painting, etc.  He is a one-man machine when you get him going but sometimes you can't shut him off when you (I mean me) get tired.  Ugh.

Now let me preface this by saying, we're not really fancy people (well, he's not).  So, I didn't have a lot of hope for extravagant finishes and you already know (if you read my blog) he hates, hates to spend a buck.

This is the before picture of our master bath.  OK, I know there's only this one but you get the gist.  It was a small bathroom with just a sink, toilet and bath/shower.  We had replaced the ugly blue counter top with a leftover piece of our newer kitchen counter top.  It's almost worse when I see it now.

This was our guest bathroom.  It was like a bowling alley.  I mean it was long and big and also ugly.  OK, this was when the wheels started turning in my head.  Back to that later.

What was I thinking about the way it was decorated?  Yuk!

The counter was so long we could have had three sinks in that lovely Formica.

Remember when I said my mind started working.  Well, I suggested to Mr. Bird Nest that we might make the guest bathroom smaller and use the extra space in the master bathroom.  I don't know how it works in your house but I'm kind of the idea person in ours and he has to execute what I come up with.  In this case, he didn't think about all the hours he'd have to spend in the crawl space and our attic, that only has a tiny access in the ceiling of our bedroom closet.

Now, I don't know how you get your husband to do things but my favorite of Mr. Bird Nest's aunts once told me to always plant the seed of an idea in his head and wait to see if it grows.  Don't nag.  Just wait.  Usually by the time they are done thinking about it, the idea will become theirs.  Lordy, she was a smart woman and I miss her since she passed away.

Tomorrow, I'll show you the construction process and Monday will be the big reveal as the bathrooms look today.  Ok, you guessed it.  I have to clean them before I take the pictures.

  3. I have one tiny bathroom. The end of my toilet is about 8 inches from the tub. No matter whose "idea" it was, I'd take it!

  5. Your Auntie was a smart, smart woman! I know what you went through. Was your house built in the 60's by any chance? We had a long bowling ball bath and a tiny 2ndone. xo Diana

  6. My husband isn't the least bit interested in anything to do with home renovation. I think you are a lucky girl to have Mr. Bird Nest. Do you by any chance rent him out?

  7. Can't wait to see the results. How lucky you are that your hubby is so skillful that he can redo a bathroom! Think of the money you are saving. Your Aunt was brilliant - think I may try that technique with my hubby.

  8. I've noticed lately that a little mention of an idea usually gets him thinking about it. Good wisdom your Aunt had! I'm not seeing your construction post for some reason. Have a great day!
