Nicholas and Chloe have been at Pawley's Island, SC for a week with their Grammie and Papa. Rick (our son and their Daddy) has been in Charleston , SC fishing all weekend and their Mommy (Noelle) has been at Greenville Memorial Hospital working as a pediatric nurse.
Mallie stayed at her "home away from home" The Bed & Biscuit for the weekend. Since it's not far from our house, I picked Mallie up this afternoon. She had to be picked up by 6:00 p.m. and neither Rick nor Noelle could make it by then. Rick asked me if I could pick her up and of course, I said yes.
Papa's giving her a good head patting to make her feel more at home.
Mallie is such a sweet gentle dog, and contrary to what Noelle thinks, Rick likes to call himself the "Dog Whisperer". I actually think they both have a real talent for raising gentle dogs.
Mallie couldn't decide whether she should lie down or follow me to the kitchen, while I cooked dinner.
I think she's sniffing to see where Nicholas and Chloe are. I know she misses them.
Now, I'm guessing she's looking for food we dropped. Clean that floor Mallie. You know, I don't want to.
Finally, she's beginning to relax.
Right now she's lying beside my chair, while I type, all stretched out snoring. She must have had a tough weekend at the Bed & Biscuit.
A quick story about the Bed & Biscuit. About 13 years ago Rick and Noelle had another lab (Zoe) who stayed at the bed and biscuit while Rick & Noelle were on their honeymoon and other times. When Zoe was hit by a car and killed, Rick and Noelle received a beautiful bouquet from the staff at the Bed & Biscuit. That's the place my dog would stay, if Mr. Bird Nest let me have one.

What a sweet dog. Nice of the boarding place to send flowers. It's so hard to be away and leave your dogs behind. That's why my friend and I swapped pet sitting. I am glad that it is over though.
ReplyDeletesuch a beauty, so healthy and happy, sounds like a great spot to leave your pet,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking dog! What a cute name for a kennel. What a great "grammie" you are for picking up the beloved pet. Sweet post!
ReplyDeleteWow- What a wonderful story about the owners. My ex-sil ran a wonderful overnight/vacation kennel and she had waiting lists. She hated to leave the business but her health gave out. Someone else bought it and they are doing well with it, too. There aren't a lot of those places that are THAT GOOD! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYour Mallie is pretty! We do love our pets. It's hard for us to get away because we hate to leave ours and it's hard to find trusted places for them to stay.
ReplyDeleteHi Gretchen! Thanks for your recent visit to the Cottage at the Crossroads. We're from South Carolina, too! Mallie looks like such a sweet dog. I wouldn't mind sitting for her, either. I just hate putting our dog at a kennel while we're out of town!
