Last night I went with our son Chris and granddaughter Lauren to see Carson in "The Wizard of Oz" at Byrnes High School's Arts Center.
Carson was the #1 Munchkin and had a very nice speaking part, along with participation in all the dances and singing. He was just great!
I told Carson this morning that I thought he had a little more rhythm than his Dad for dancing. I believe he's happy not to have practices after school every day.
Carson and Lauren are very lucky to be in the school district they are in. Not only has the district had a nationally ranked football team but their educational system and arts programs are the best in our entire county.
I want to tell you a bit about Carson's school, Abner Creek Academy. This school has only been open for a few years and Elizabeth (Chris' wife) is a first grade teacher there and has been since it opened. They have students from kindergarten to 4th grade and every year their drama club has a new presentation. Most of the lead roles were students from the 4th grade and I think both the girl who was "Dorothy" and the boy who was the "Cowardly Lion" have real futures as actors. Both the principal and asst. principal had acting roles too as Elfie the Wicked Witch and Glinda the Good Witch. What a great thing for them to put themselves out there as actors for the students to see.
Although Carson had said he wouldn't want to do this again (before the performance), this morning he told me he was going to do it again next year.
Elizabeth put in a lot of hours too helping with all the students during all their hours of practices.
I'm so sorry I didn't have a picture of Carson from the play but he looked really cute.
Have a great weekend! The sun is shining here and it's going to at least 65 degrees.
